Club History

Gedling Town Football Club was formed in 1986 as R & R Scaffolding and they moved quickly and efficiently through the Notts Amateur League. The name Gedling Town came in the 1990-1991 season when the Club moved into the Central Midlands League, finishing as Champions of Division One and in 1991-1992 as runners up to Slack and Par in the Premier Division. For the 1992-1993 season Gedling were promoted to the Supreme Division where they finished a creditable sixth place. However the honours continued to go to the Club when the Wakefield Floodlit Challenge Cup was won in may of 1993 with a 2-0 defeat of Sheffield Aurora.

The Club continued to make excellent progress during the 1993-94 and 1994-95 seasons. In 1995-96 Gedling again made it to the final of Wakefield Floodlit Challenge Cup final but went down 3-1 both home and away to Harworth Colliery Welfare.

The 1996-97 season proved to be very successful for Gedling, they finished fourth in the Supreme Division their highest position to date, they also had there best run in the Carlsberg Vase reaching the third round proper, beating Wellingborough Town (Unisport United Counties League, away 4-2, Westfield Bank’s Brewery (West Midlands (regional) league), home 7-1 their biggest win in the vase so far, and Shifnal Town (Interlink Express Midlands Football Alliance), home 2-1. In the third round they lost 1-0 to Durham (Insurance Northern League)

In 1997-98 season Gedling Town had their best ever season to date winning the Supreme Division Championship, they also reached the Semi Finals of the Wakefield Floodlit Cup, the Cox League Cup and the Notts Senior Cup. Gedling Reserves also won the Reserve Premier Division Championship for the second year running. Gedling had a very disappointing 1998-1999 season finishing sixth in the League and going out of the League Cup to South Normanton Athletic in the third round.

In their final season in the Central Midlands League Gedling finished fourth in the League, they won the League Cup beating South Normanton Athletic 3-2 which meant Gedling had won all the trophies in the Central Midlands which also included the Reserves 1999-2000 Their debut season in the Northern Counties East League Division One saw Gedling town reach an incredible Fifth place in the League and reaching the finals of both the Senior Cup and the League Cup.

In the 2004-2005 season Gedling Town had various levels of success. There were several Sup semi-finals played near the end of the season. However all the Cup success came at a price. The league form was not maintained and promotion was narrowly missed.

The 2005-2006 season once again ended in disappointment with missing out on promotion by only three points. Good cup runs were enjoyed but they distracted from the league. At the end of the season the management team plus many of the players left the Club.
